HISTORY OF BARBERING Now in the twilight years of 2015 no longer do we have THE DEMON BARBER. The most infamous of Barbers was Sweeney Todd of Fleet Street London in the eighteen hundreds. One Barbers chair in his shop stood on a trap door in the floor. If a customer came in who seemed worth robbing, the chair would suddenly somersault, hurling the customer to his death into a 5 metre deep cellar paved with sharp stones. THE SURGEON-BARBERS In the past, the art of surgery and the trade of Barber were combined. In 1540 England, the company of Barber-Surgeons was formed which lasted to 1745 when the Surgeons and Barbers were separated. The Red and White Barbers Pole is left over from this time, red represents blood and white represents bandages. In the 50's Barbers were rocking out popular Hair Styles ranging from the very popular Crew Cut to the longer Elvis Presley style and then the Caesar cut a style copied from Julius Caesar, Emperor of Rome.
